It was a slow afternoon at the Mystery Shack. Mabel was off with her friends playing at the park. Wendy was moving stock around on the display rack in the gift shop, while Stan took a nap behind the cash register. Soos came barging in nearly startling Stan enough to make him fall back out out of his chair.
“Hey look who I found!” Soos said proudly.
Stan glanced over at him then behind him narrowing his eyes. When he caught a glimpse of the young man, he flinched before shouting, “What is he doing here!?” The young man raised an eyebrow as he walked inside before Stan recovered. “That was quick! Now that’s what I call service!” he shouted. Wendy stared back at Cody and blushed, which she knocked over a display rack in the process. Stan snapped his head back at her glaring at her. “Hey, hey! You break it! You buy it!” he shouted wagging his finger at her. She grumbled as she picked up the trinkets and restocked the display rack, but she snuck glances at Cody with a satisfied grin.
Stan looked around suspiciously. “So…uh…did you get my things?” Stan asked while shuffling through the underside of the counter.
Cody pointed back to a black sports car. “Yea…everything you need for your rabbit hole problem” he said, which Stan walked out to the car in the dusty driveway.
Dipper wondered into the gift shop hearing the commotion from upstairs, and he examined Cody’s shirt which said, “OSI”, with a beaver logo on it. He looked towards Stan who was pulling out a box from the black car. “Grunkle Stan, who is this guy?” he asked.
Soos patted the young man’s shoulder and laughed. “Are you kidding? Cody is my bestest buddy since Kindergarten” he said before giving him a noogie.
Cody pulled away smirking as he ruffled his hair back into place. “You thinking about getting the crew back together?” he asked.
“I’m in!” Wendy shouted
Soos rubbed the stubble on his chin. “I’m definitely interested…but I’ll have to ask my superior about that” he said before he looked over at Stan. “Can I leave early Mr. Pines?” he asked.
Stan grunted and gritted his teeth at how heavy the box was, while he moved it inside. “Uh, Yea sure…oh, and take Dipper and Mabel with you too” he said before slamming the box onto the countertop. There was a sudden outburst of rapid clicking, which Stan immediately reached in to turn off a device in the box. He growled failing to turn the device off, and Cody walked over to help turn it off.
Dipper eyes narrowed on the box. “What does a Geiger counter have anything to do with rabbits?” Dipper asked.
Stan looked very annoyed with Dipper. “They are mutant rabbits…” Stan said.
Cody became aloof finding this to be too big of a lie to be creditable. “It’s for Radon detection…nothing to do with rabbits” Cody said handing the Geiger counter back to Stan.
“So, what are we going to do today?” Soos asked.
Cody walked back over to Soos smirking. “Paintball” he said.
“Alright, Cody!” Wendy shouted holding her hand up giving him a high five.
“Wait…Paintball?” Dipper muttered.
Stan grinned. “Heh, heh! Have fun! I’ll make sure to fill the tub with ice when you get back” he said before he laughed evilly.
“Let’s go round everyone up and get our gear ready” Cody said walking out with Soos and Wendy.
Dipper panicked at the thought of running for his life like some sort of wild game animal. “Gear!?” Dipper muttered while he lagged behind.
Soos took Dipper’s hand and laughed. “Don’t worry, you can borrow my old gear” he said taking him to his pickup truck.
Mabel and her friends walked down the driveway talking amongst one another until they noticed the black car and shifted their focus on Cody with great interest. “Hey, who’s that!?” Grenda asked.
Mabel watched Wendy being smitten with Cody, and she looked back at Cody’s lack of interest. “I don’t know, but he sure looks cute don’t you think?” she whispered.
“Hubba hubba…he looks so handsome. He reminds me of Gerard” Grenda whispered back.
Cody looked towards them and shot them a scowl, which they flinched and huddled up. “I think he heard us” Candy whispered.
“Don’t be silly…he would have to have crazy hearing…like a dog” Mabel whispered back.
Cody kept scowling at them, which Candy gulped noticing his eye twitch. “He’s still looking at us” she whispered as she tried to hide behind Grenda.
Wendy nudged Cody with her phone trying to get his attention. “Looks like it’s a go. to meet up with us here” she said before she squeezed his arm noticing how much girth and firmness it had gained. “Whoa, dude, have you been working out?” she asked.
Cody jerked his arm away awkwardly. “Why are you doing that?” he asked.
Wendy looked up confused before she blushed. “Uh…nothing…I just haven’t seen you in a long time. You’ve changed, Cody” she said.
Cody gulped sensing her enhanced interest in him. “It’s only been a year” he said before he turned back into the shack.
Wendy took in a deep breath, and she let out a deep sigh as she watched him go back inside. “You like him don’t you!?” Mabel interjected. She smiled widely with satisfaction over Wendy’s crush.
Wendy flinched before her blush returned with a vengeance. “He’s too old for me” she said before Mabel grinned and snickered. Wendy became confused and frowned. “What?” she asked.
“Oh, It’s nothing” she said waving her hand at her.
Wendy scowled at her. “Seriously Mabel, I’m not crushing on him!” she grumbled.
Soos honked his horn and rolled his window down. “Hey, Mabel! We’re going paintballing” he said.
“Ooh, ooh, can Candy and Grenda come too!?” Mabel squealed, while she hopped with glee.
Soos laughed. “Hey, the more the merrier!” he shouted before he looked at Cody who was already suited up. “Hey, Cody! Why don’t you take Mabel’s friends over to the spot, and I’ll bring over the whole armory! And Pizza Bagels and Mountain Fizz!” he shouted.
Cody looked towards Candy and Grenda who were still gawking at him, and he sighed heavily. “Sure, alright” he said.
Mabel got inside Soos’s truck, and he drove off as Dipper stared back at Cody, while they drove off. Dipper looked back at Soos hoping to find more about this new guy. “So…Cody goes to Oregon State Institute? What does he do there?” he asked.
Soos paused for a moment to stroke his stubble. “I think he said something about doing some kind of Science there! Mr. Pines is giving him an internship here…you know…you kind of act like him too, come to think of it” he said.
Dipper raised an eyebrow. “What kind of science program would allow him to intern with Grunkle Stan?” he mumbled with skepticism.
Soos shrugged. “I dunno, but it was sure fun visiting the campus. Did you know they made a watermelon-apple over there?” he asked.
“Oh! Do they have an orange-grape!?” Mabel asked.
Soos snickered. “That would be awesome!” he shouted.
Meanwhile at the Corduroy cabin, Cody’s car was parked in the driveway fiddling around with his phone searching for a playlist to listen to. Manly Dan rushed out slamming the door behind him causing Grenda and Candy to cower in the back of the car. Cody looked over his shoulder seeing a mass of plaid eclipsing the sun, which Cody rolled his window down. Manly Dan’s huge arm rested on the door making the whole car list to one side as the left side shocks took the entire load. Manly Dan gave Cody his most intimidating stare, but Cody did not flinch.
“I want her back before dusk, ya’here?” he asked gruffly.
Cody nodded slowly while he watched Wendy make her way back to the car with all her gear on. “I’m trusting you’ll keep her safe!” he shouted.
Cody frowned. “Is there something going on that I don’t know about?” he asked.
Manly Dan clenched his fist and gritted his teeth. “You know what goes on in that Ghost Town!” he raised his voice as he jabbed his finger into Cody’s arm.
Wendy huffed. “I’ll be fine dad! Those are just some silly rumors” she said as she got inside the car.
Cody paused for a moment looking at his phone, and he looked back at Manly Dan. “I got it” he said, which Manly Dan frown pulling away from the door making the whole car level back out. Cody waved before he backed out of the driveway as the song “Little Secrets” by Passion pit started to play
Meanwhile Soos was drove out of town and turn off onto an old logging road that had been weathered away from years of no maintenance. There was a mossy sign that said “Camp Obsidian 10 mi Mt. *****moon Summit 16 mi”, which Mabel laughed making the most fun out of an incredibly bumpy ride. It seemed to take hours to go up the road before they reached a clearing where Thompson’s van was parked. Tambry was sharing her earbuds with Robbie, and Lee and Nate were throwing pine cones at Thompson.
Soos pulled up, and the group looked up to see the stockpile of supplies to the truck bed. Dipper and Mabel jumped out of the car, and Dipper looked around noticing a rusted steam donkey that was covered in vegetation. “Where are we?” he asked studying the surroundings.
In the middle of the forest were old dilapidated shacks with wooden sidewalks. Mabel wondered about the ghost town, and she was soon out of sight. Dipper stubbed his toe on something metallic, which he winced reaching for his foot to quell the pings of pain shooting up through his leg. He soon noticed what looked to be a rail caked with decades of rust and overgrown with vines, and the rail was oriented towards the town. “What is a town doing out here in the middle of the woods?” he asked himself.
He walked down the main street which the rail ran through them, and he came across a Heisler locomotive pulling a fully loaded log train. The tender said, “Obsidian Company” but the lettering were faded and blood colored rust seemed to ooze down the sides. “It looks like this town didn’t die slowly…more like they dropped everything and ran in a panic” he mused.
Dipper was rudely interrupted by a loud clang of the bell, “Look Dipper! It still works!” Mabel shouted as she poked her head out from the cab window.
Dipper glared at her. “Mabel! What are you doing up there!?” he shouted before the sound of glass breaking echoed down the street. Dipper looked farther down the street seeing a triangle shadow against a building moving swiftly away. He continued to stare at the street before he walked farther down the street to the alley way, which to no surprise there were no one there. “I know you’re here, Bill!” he shouted.
Dipper took a step into the alley before he heard and felt something crunch under his foot. He instinctively lifted up his foot looking down at a shattered tribal mask that was next to a skull. Dipper stared at it before a skeleton fell on top of him with its arm draped over him. Dipper let out a loud shriek of terror trying to fight off the skeleton. Mabel came to his aid only to burst out with laughter. “Who’s your friend Dipper?” she asked as she pulled the skeleton off from him.
Dipper realized that the skeleton was a fake, and he crossed his arms. “I wasn’t scared!” he pouted.
Bill’s laughter echoed in the alleyway as it seemed to surround them and a shadow enveloped them. They screamed trying to run out, but they fell into the shadows once they stepped into it. They soon woke up in a vibrant version of the town, and Dipper looked at Mabel then at himself noticing that they were in 1930’s clothing. “What’s going on?” he asked.
There was a loud howl, and the whole town went into a panic. Dipper and Mabel looked around the corner. “They’re back! Run!” the brakeman yelled. The citizens ran down the streets and the engineer and fireman ditched the steam engine running with the loggers and miners lagging behind. There were beings in cloaks and masks running behind and flanking them on the roof tops.
Blendin Blandin ran into the alleyway across the street activating his time machine, and a cloaked masked creature jumped in front of Dipper and Mabel. They screamed stepping back, and Dipper tripped over a severed hand falling backwards. Dipper scream looking at the hand at his feet, and Mabel grabbed his arm trying to pull him back to his feet. The creature grabbed Dipper’s shoulder, and he shouted, “Dipper! Snap out of it!”
Dipper tried fighting back, and everything around them warped and blurred around them. Everything returned to normal, and the mask vanished revealing Cody’s face. Dipper looked around dazed and confused as Cody shook Mabel who was failing about on the ground. Wendy ran up to them as Mabel woke up. “Are they alright?” she asked.
“Yea, they’ll be fine. They must have passed out from seeing Dana Skully” Cody said.
Wendy saw the skeleton and giggled. “You mean she was here the whole time?” she asked picking up the skeleton and skull.
Dipper gulped. “What was that all about?” he muttered.
Cody smirked. “Come on, let’s get you both suited up. Everyone is waiting for you two” he said walking off with Wendy.
Dipper looked at the 5 log cars which their markers said, “UHGUU GHVYS CSFVS ZABHU MUOVZ” Mabel grabbed the mask, which it had been fixed or never broken in the first place. “Hey, you forgot Skully’s mask!” she shouted catching up with the group.
Cody looked back at her, and he stopped looking at the mask. “Dana Skully doesn’t wear a mask” he said as he took it from Mabel’s possession. He examined the mask before handing it back to her. “You can keep it if you want” he said.
Mabel put the mask on Skully’s head, and she smiled thoughtfully. “It would be a good idea for Dana Skully to wear a mask…for safety” she said.
Wendy laughed. “Looks good on ya Dana Skully!” she said with approval.
Cody laughed at the sight before he looked up at the group of suited up teenagers waiting impatiently. “Hey, Look who Dipper and Mabel found!” he yelled.
Soos’s eyes squinted trying to study the skeleton. “No way! Is that Dana Skully!?” he shouted.
Cody nodded. “Yup! She’s been here the whole time” he said.
Wendy handed Skully over to Soos where he placed her in the driver’s seat of his truck. “Uup, better buckle you up for safety” he said.
Cody cleared his throat as he reached in the truck bed to pull out a tissue box and reached in pulling out markers showing them to everyone “Alright, we are going to draw lots. There are both 6 red and blue markers!” he said showing them. “These colors will be the color you’ll use for shots. You will get to elect your team captains and what not. This will be a capture the flag, limited ammunition, and elimination game. The boundary conditions are within the town, No Head shots, no sniping, no hostage scenarios, no rough housing, no safe zones, and no booby trapping flags. One shot is one kill. There will be a limit of 30 rounds for everyone…” he said as he was putting them back in.
“30 shots!?” Robbie interrupted.
Cody sighed. “There’s only 6 targets! if you need more than 30, then you must be a terrible shot! But If you need more, you can take a fallen comrade’s weapon…Anyway, You can pick where your flags can be held, and…um…everyone will get one grenade…” he said before he noticed everyone’s disinterest and Dipper and Mabel were suited up. “Fine…lets draw!” he muttered holding out the tissue box. Everyone reached in, and they show the colors that they have selected.
It turned out that Mabel, Robbie, Lee, Nate, Candy, and Soos were on the red team, and Dipper, Wendy, Cody, Thompson, Tambry, and Grenda were on the blue team. Robbie, Tambry, Candy, and Grenda were not very happy with the results, but Nate and Lee were more than enthusiastic giving each other high fives.
“Set your time for 5 minutes to come up with a plan and set up your flags” he said Cody handed the red team their flag, and he took his team into the town. “So…who wants to be team captain?” he asked.
“I would like to be the team captain!” Dipper said.
Cody looked at the others. “How many are in favor?” he asked. Wendy, Tambry, and Grenda all agreed, and Cody grinned. “Well…looks like you got the job” he said.
“Come on, guys! I’ve got a really good plan!” Dipper shouted before he looked back at them in complete shock. “wait…really?” he asked.
Cody put his mask on. “Yea…none of them would think that we’d make you our team captain…we can have Wendy second-in-line and I can be third-in-line” he said before he lead them into a locomotive storehouse. “Now, Let’s get our plan together…alright?” Cody asked.
Meanwhile, the red group was bickering amongst themselves whether Candy or Robbie should be the team captain. “Guys! Guys! We don’t have time to argue! Do we even need a captain?” she asked.
“If we are to win, we are going to have to put aside our differences and overcome our adversities” Soos said sternly.
Robbie huffed crossing his arms. “Yea…whatever!” he muttered.
Candy showed them that the clock reached 2 minutes. “No time!” she shouted.
Nate and Lee grinned. “Let’s put the flag in that building!” they both shouted pointing.
Soos ran with the flag to the place it before time expired. Robbie growled. “Look! You two! Guard the flag with Soos! The boys and I will go get everyone!” he shouted at Candy and Mabel.
The timer went to zero, which Robbie and his posse snuck behind the buildings, which they heard rustling in the brush. Robbie waved them to stop, but then they saw that it was Thompson way out in the open defenseless. Nate and Lee snickered and rushed Thompson, which Robbie could only shriek, “Wait!”
Nate and Lee ran up behind Thompson, and he turned around throwing a grenade at them. “No!!” Robbie yelled as the grenade exploded after Thompson was hit by two markers. Robbie growled rushing in to get their weapons, and he ran dodging fire from Grenda, which she got hit. She sighed with disappointment and put her weapon down. Cody and Wendy snuck out to retrieve Grenda and Thompson’s weapons.
Wendy looked over at Cody and held a thumb up. “I can’t believe Dipper’s plan is actually working” she said.
Cody nodded. “Be water!” he said, which Wendy nodded running off into the town. Cody jump onto a fallen tree that rested on a roof. He stopped looking back at them. “You all can chill out at the van” he said before he ran off.
They gawked at his ability to jump 5 feet into the air and hop the roof tops. “Dude! Is he really jumping the roofs!?” Thompson yelled.
Meanwhile Dipper and Tambry snuck behind the abandoned log train, which Tambry covered Dipper’s back. “I think I found where their flag!” he said before he heard a plop behind them. “What was that?” he muttered. He looked down noticing a grenade. “Oh no! Run!” he yelled.
Dipper and Tambry ran out in the open as Mabel and Candy started running after them screaming and firing haphazardly. Tambry got hit, and she stopped. “Tch! Whatever…” she muttered before a shadow caught her eye. She looked up seeing Cody flanking Mabel and Candy on the roof top. “Whoa!” she muttered.
Dipper was backed into a corner, but Candy was hit by Cody’s shot as she tripped over a rail. “I’m hit!” she shouted.
Dipper took the chance to shot Mabel just as Cody got his shot off. Mabel looked back at where Dipper’s cover was coming from. “Wha?” she muttered seeing no one on the streets.
Dipper ran around the alley and saw that Soos was standing guard. “Alright! I hope this works…” he muttered pulling out a laser pointer and pointed it at the side of the wall.
Soos laughed at the childish prank. “That’s not going to work on me dude!” he said before he slapped at the wall giving Dipper the opportunity to shoot him in the arm. It was a short lived victory as he was shot from behind by Robbie. Robbie was taking on fire by Wendy, and he ran into the alley taking cover.
Dipper sighed with disappointment until Cody fell through the roof of the breezeway in front of him. “Are you alright?” he asked.
Cody dusted himself off. “Yea, I’m fine” he said before he walked into the building to claim the flag. “Don’t worry…its bonus time” he said before he took Dipper’s gun and grenade. He jumped up and climbed back onto the roof of the breezeway.
Meanwhile Wendy and Robbie were exchanging fire as if they were the only ones left. Cody threw a Grenade at Robbie’s feet, but Robbie ran out of the way out of luck. “What the!?” he shouted before he heard Wendy’s gun misfiring. He aimed at her only to be hit by Cody’s second grenade. “Two!?” he muttered.
Cody stood up on the roof waving the flag smirking. “That was just because I could” he said.
Wendy laughed. “Alright Cody!” she yelled
Robbie growled and started pulling the trigger only to find out that he was out of rounds. Dipper, Soos, and Mabel arrived just as Cody jumped off from the roof onto the street surprising them. Wendy laughed nervously noticing that he was fine, but there was a deep loud howl.
“How long have we been out here?” Dipper asked.
Wendy gulped pulling out her phone seeing that it was nearly 7. More howls echoed through the trees, and Wendy shivered. “It’s getting late guys” she said.
Dipper frowned. “I thought we were here for only an hour” he muttered.
Soos looked at them funny. “You and Mabel were gone for a while” he said.
There was a sudden gust of wind, and it gave everyone goose bumps as the howls drew near. “Uh, should we get going? Weird things happen here at night” he said.
Robbie smirked. “What? Afraid of a couple of Coyotes?” he asked.
Cody looked at Robbie and smirked. “You do know that these are Skinwalker lands…why do you think this town was abandoned?” he asked.
“Wait…Skinwalkers?” Dipper muttered.
“You know! People who can turn into animals…wolf in this case” Cody said.
“So like a werewolf?” Dipper asked.
“Please…Werewolves are much more threatening than puny skinwalkers. They have freakish powers when they are in their human forms, so Skinwalkers are pretty much normal in human form” Cody said.
Dipper shivered remembering the vision he had earlier. “Ya, Let’s go back!” he muttered.
Wendy ran to Cody clutching onto his arm. Cody looked back at her confused before he noticed a person in a cloak and mask with a pack of wolves behind him. “Leave here! You aren’t safe here!” he warned.
Everyone but Cody moved back. “What do you mean? Night hasn’t fallen yet” he asked.
“The Triangle Man is strongest during the nights with no moon” The man said. “Go now!” he raised his voice as the wolves charged after everyone. Cody watched everyone run towards the cars, and the man handed Cody dream catchers. “These should at least weaken his power” he said.
“Thank you” Cody said.
“If Triangle Man gets his way, he’ll bring mass extinction” he added.
“I understand…” Cody said.
Dipper watched Cody talking to the man as Soos drove off frantically. “What are they talking about?” he muttered.
